Missouri Department of Conservation is hosting fly-tying classes

The Missouri Department of Conservation is hosting fly-tying classes in Saint Joseph next month.

Media Specialist with the MDC, Bill Graham, says flies on a fishing line help attract hungry fish.

"Fly-tying is basically creating fishing lures that mimick insects.  And sometimes it also includes mimicking small fish like minoes.  Using feathers, shaneils, thread, hooks, sometimes a weighted hook.  Basically you use the thread to tie the materials together in a way that resembles an insect or something that looks good to a fish to sample to eat, so you can catch the fish."

The fly-tying class will be January 6th through 30th, at MDC's Northwest Regional Office, at Missouri Western State University. For those interested, Graham says they should register before January 2nd. For more information, visit mdc.mo.gov.
